Prospect Point

The owners of Prospect Point were pioneers at Wildcat on the Bay, the first to commission a custom-designed waterfront house in the ultimate privacy of this northernmost building site on Chincoteague Bay, a site immediately adjoining the wildlife refuge where no development will ever occur.

To maximize the drama inherent in this sublime setting, the designer placed the building diagonally on the site and anchored it with a spacious screened porch at the very boundary of the refuge. The view to the south down the bay, framed by tall pines and given great depth and perspective by the salt marsh and a succession of coves and points, is the grandest of them all. Up the bay to the north, along the salt marsh, American egrets and great blue herons are nearly always seen, and to see a bald eagle flying out from a tall pine to soar above the bay is not uncommon.

Inside, Prospect Point's Great Room -- with its two-story cathedral ceiling and eight-foot high expanses of glass--also affords tenants and their guests superb views of the bay and evening sunsets. The white walls reflect and accentuate the daylight that streams through the large skylight overhead. Natural pine and wide plank flooring add warmth and beauty. A hearth of old brick, with a mantel of weathered driftwood, frames the fireplace, making for a most congenial and comfortable setting on chilly days or evenings. Overlooking the Great Room is a second floor interior balcony that leads to a large, 20 foot by 20 foot, observation and sun-deck. Outside the Great Room is a gently curved promenade deck from which tenants are afforded still another place to enjoy the scene, including the gorgeous sunsets that are sure to become a memorable part of everyone's visit to Wildcat on the Bay.

For assured privacy, each of the four bedrooms is reached by a separate hall, each has its own dressing area with private bath, tub and shower, and each has a private balcony overlooking the water. Visitors find that this excellent bedroom arrangement works especially well for groups of adults or extended families traveling together. Everyone has a secluded space for quiet moments. Each of the four bedrooms has its own distinctive art objects and decoration.

The kitchen is ideally located in the Great Room to allowfood service to the connecting screened pavilion, and conversation flows without interruption across the kitchen island. A separate floor-to-ceiling pantry cupboard affords extra convenience.

The house is connected to the bay by a dock and an inviting elevated walkway across the salt marsh from the screened porch. The dock affords opportunities for boating, wading, sunbathing, and crabbing (renters will find crab pots beneath the porch). Windsurfing in the bay from this dock is a sport likely to gain more and more favor with tenants.
