These five rental homes were all built during the nineteen nineties and custom-designed by Richard Vesely much noted for creating waterfront homes with captivating views from every room. The five houses are next to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge's Wildcat Marsh, a roadless, pristine place of salt marsh, long finger-like pine ridges and sloughs, and occasional hummocks of salt bush, bayberry and cedar.

The Wildcat on the Bay homes are located on lots, which run eastward from the bay across a pine ridge and continue for up to a third of a mile, crossing salt marsh, tidal creeks, and pine ridges, finally ending at a beautiful winding creek or "gut" known as Hairy Head Pond. The views of the bay are all the more sweeping because these two-story homes rest on six to eight foot pilings. On clear nights the lights of Captains Cove and Greenbackville, four miles to the west, sparkle against an otherwise dark horizon. On clear mornings atmospheric mirages magnify and levitate the buildings profile of these two communities, creating a spectral delight.

The appeal of Wildcat on the Bay is indeed year round. Birders can look for resident and migratory species associated with three distinct habitats -- open bay, salt march, and pine woods, including two species classified as endangered nationally, but not uncommon here, the bald eagle and peregrine falcon. Thousands of migrating song birds, shore birds, and waterfowl visit the area each spring and fall. Along with its profusion of wildlife and beautiful setting Wildcat on the Bay is blessed with the generally mild climate of the mid-Atlantic shore, making it a truly a vacation destination for all seasons.
