Bay LifeVisitors to Bay Life enter by passing through a columned portico and glass-walled vestibule that hint at the dynamic engagement of the house with the water and the woods around it. The heart of the house is the Great Room with its walk-in window bay, eight feet high and twelve feet across, commanding magnificent views of Chincoteague Bay and its legendary sunsets. The fireplace, on a raised antique brick hearth, is but one focus of this handsome and comfortably elegant space which has an intriguing upper level balcony that embraces the room on three sides. The Great Room's library shelves contain 150 biographies and as many novels. There is a 27-inch TV (plus VCR) to take advantage of the unrivaled picture quality afforded by the digital satellite system, and a stereo to make the most of the 31 music channels. Upstairs from the Great Room is a balcony/loft with a large desk, comfortable chairs, and more books. |
The dining area of the Great
Room is a fine place for seated dinners of up to twelve, and informal
social gatherings for even larger extended family groups are easily accommodated.
A deluxe vacation home's kitchen should be at once convenient and part
of the fun, and Bay Life's large galley kitchen is all of that. It affords
easy connection to the Great Room, flexible circulation, plenty of storage,
and it is completely stocked with cookware, table service, glassware, and
spices--everything you may need even for a large party. Bay Life is unique among Chincoteague's five-star luxury properties in being handicap accessible. It has a handsomely designed front ramp to the first floor where 36-inch-wide doors allow access to all rooms, porches, and decks at that level. Another unusual feature at Bay Life is the Game Room. Opening onto a waterfront deck, the Game Room is a wonderful amenity for families with children or teenagers who will find this private space very inviting. This room has its own regulation-size pool table, independently programable 27-inch satellite TV, VCR, game table, lounge seating, sleep sofa, and full bath. Bay Life consists of two quite distinct wings, attached yet set off enough from each other almost to suggest two separate houses. This is a most welcome feature for reunions where several couples can enjoy being together yet without loss of space and privacy. There are two bedrooms to each wing, each with its own bath and individual balcony or access to a deck. A special feature of Bay Life is the sky deck at roof top, affording sweeping views in all directions. |
Extended outdoor living
areas include the screened entry porch and an unusual centrally sited all-weather
screened porch with gas barbeque and adjacent sports deck, with a compelling
upper level observation and sun deck.
A dock from the house crosses the marsh to the bay. A special feature is a reversible bench allowing vacationers to watch either the morning sunrise or the evening sunset. Shallow-draft skiffs as well as canoes can be tied up to this dock.Special mention must be made of the art work in the house, all of it by local Chincoteague artists, including several pieces by nationally recognized wildlife artist Nancy Richards West.
